The Sacral Chakra: Creativity, Fertility, Pleasure
The Sacral Chakra is located generally around the lower abdomen, near where the sacrum is found at the bottom of the spine, or a few inches below the navel. It is also sometimes referred to as the navel, belly or pelvic chakra. While the Root Chakra helps connect us to the Earth, the Sacral Chakra is more in tune with water. The color associated with the Sacral Chakra is orange, which is generally considered a color of joy and creativity - fitting considering these are two aspects of the energy found here. Other aspects include pleasure, enthusiasm, and fertility (both reproductive and prosperity).
Functions relating to the physical body include the spleen in men, the uterus in women, and the adrenal glands (in everyone).
When our Sacral Chakra is well balanced and energy is flowing properly, we are better able to create new things, make improvements on things or in ourselves, more easily procreate, and we are more able to control our reactions to conflict. When this chakra is not well balanced or the energy is blocked, we experience issues with relationships, we are more prone to violent reactions, we develope sexual problems (erectile dysfunction, sexually transmitted diseases), addictive behaviors or jealousy. We also may experience illnesses such as colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, bladder or intestinal diseases, or unexplained pain in the lower back.
David Pond writes that the state of our Sacral Chakra shows in how we experience things. For example, if we sit down to enjoy a meal, taking our time and tasting all the flavors, savoring them, this is a healthy approach and indicates a well-balanced chakra. However, if we try instead to gobble up as much of it as we can as quickly as we can, we are not actually experiencing the meal at all - we are just consuming it. This is true in all the aspects of the Sacral Chakra, and relates to the concept of “be here now.”
Here are some options to help balance the Sacral Chakra:
Use crystals and stones such as Carnelian, Yellow Topaz, Orange Calcite or Fire Opal to activate the chakra. Emeralds help to calm it, enhancing psychic powers and clairvoyance. Moonstone and Aquamarine help to balance it by working with the “inner sea” of the intestines (Patricia Mercier).
Aromatherapy geared toward sedation or antidepressant functions: Sandalwood, Jasmine, Rose Oil (This is an attractor, so use it with clear positive intention!), and Ylang-Ylang.
Bring this chakra alive by doing creative things, and enjoying them fully. Sing with your whole heart - do not consider whether it sounds good; just feel your voice lift the vibration of your whole being. Dance, drum, play instruments, CREATE THINGS. Cook something different. Paint something, repaint something. Build something. Try to do a good job, but mostly just lose yourself in the creation, in the process. Let your intention always be to experience everything about it with joy and elan.
